For example, it could be used to replace some of the income lost due to hospitalization or to cover some of the additional costs often incurred along with hospitalization like medicines, food, or transportation. Your cover will start immediately when you register for insurance provided you have qualified for cover based on your previous months' Equitel activity. Each future month the coverage runs from the first day of the calendar month through the last day of the calendar month. For instance, if you sign up on April 16, you will receive coverage from April 16-30. Your next month's coverage would go from May 1-31 provided you meet the loyalty criteria again in April.

The cover is only for the registered Equitel subscriber. No additional people may be covered by Riziki Cover.

Any Equitel subscriber over the age of 18 can sign up. To purchase the Riziki+ Cover policy, you must have a bank account with Equity Bank. If you choose Riziki+ Cover, you (and your spouse, if buying the Riziki + Family Cover) must be between 18-65 years old and your children 18 or younger. Once signed up, coverage can continue indefinitely as long as premiums continue to be paid and the subscriber is alive. Children's cover ends when they turn 19.

No, Riziki and Riziki+ Covers are meant to work well with NHIF, not as a replacement. Our product as a “top-up” to add additional benefits on top of NHIF.

You are only able to collect a maximum payout equal to 30 nights in the hospital in a 12-month period, for each policy. This applies separately for each covered person. ( i.e. each family member on a family plan can get paid for 30 nights in 12 months).

You can stay in any hospital with inpatient facilities licensed by Ministry of Health, Government of Kenya, whether public or private. The stay must be overnight for three nights or more in a row.

There are no exclusions on types of illnesses or causes of hospitalization. As long as your illnessrequires you to stay 3 or more nights in a row in the hospital, you will be covered.

Call the insurance call center via 0763 063 745 to submit you claim. You will be given details on next steps. For hospital claims, you will need to submit copies of your ID, hospital payment invoice/receipt as well as documents showing date of admission and discharge signed by a doctor or hospital. If you are claiming for a child on a family plan, you will also need to provide a birth certificate, showing they are your biological child. If you are claiming for a spouse on a family plan, you may also need to provide proof of relationship. Claims must be submitted within 90 days from the day of discharge from the hospital.

We aim to pay claims in 48 hours or less. If your claim is approved, your benefit will be paid into your Equity Bank account.

If the policy holder dies during a hospital stay of 3 nights or longer, their next-of-kin can make a claim by following the claim procedures. Proof of relationship will be required.

Fraud is when somebody tries to cheat an insurance company by making false claims. Fraud could mean making fake documents, lying about your hospital stay, staying longer in hospital than you need to, or doing anything dishonest in order to benefit from this insurance product. Equitel and Britam Insurance Company take fraud cases very seriously. Anyone submitting an insurance claim which is dishonest or fraudulent will not be paid. Likewise, they will lose any future insurance coverage and can be prosecuted under the law.
